Key highlights include:
Engaging Young Learners: Led by Jules Tam, the organization focuses on students who may not have formal STEM programs at their schools. They use hands-on challenges to simplify complex concepts like Newton’s laws of motion.
The Glider Challenge: At a "Girls in Engineering, Math, and Science" (GEMS) expo, students participated in the SAE A World In Motion® (AWIM) Glider Challenge. By turning the lesson into a competition to beat a distance record, the program motivated students to iterate on their designs, learn teamwork, and realize that engineering can be fun rather than just "hard work."
Sustainable Energy Education: In partnership with the South Central Community Action Program (SCCAP), A-SI hosted a summer camp featuring the AWIM Fuel Cell Challenge. Students learned about electrolysis and hydrogen as a clean energy source by building and testing fuel-cell-powered cars.
Mission of Diversity: The article emphasizes the importance of providing these opportunities to diverse groups of students to inspire future careers in engineering.
Future Goals: Following the success of these workshops, All-Star Imagination plans to expand its offerings of STEM workshops and summer camps in the Bloomington area to continue building student confidence and interest in technical fields.
